“International Archaeological Research on the Botai Culture at the Present Stage and Its Prospects”

On 15 January, a round table discussion entitled “International Archaeological Research on the Botai Culture at the Present Stage and Its Prospects” was held in an online format at the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Botai”.

Within the framework of the event, Director of the Botai State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve Sabina Karimovna Amirova, Professor of the University of Exeter (United Kingdom) Alan Outram, and Candidate of Historical Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Russian Federation) Natalia Nikolaevna Skakun discussed future joint research projects and prospects for international cooperation.

The round table also brought together domestic scientists and archaeologists conducting research on the Botai culture. Among the participants were Talgat Mamirov, Meruert Kiyasbek, Dosbol Baygunakov, Mambet Shagirbayev, as well as staff members of the Botai Museum-Reserve.

Particular attention was given to the presentation delivered by Alan Outram, dedicated to the Botai culture and the issue of horse domestication, one of the key topics in world archaeology.

During the meeting, participants discussed the results of recent international studies, current scientific challenges, as well as prospects for further research and preservation of the unique Botai site.

Such scientific meetings contribute to strengthening international cooperation and promoting Kazakhstan’s archaeological heritage.
