Round Table, Book Presentation, and Visit to Archaeological Excavations

On August 16, 2019, in the village of Saumalkol, Ayirtau District, a round table was held on the topic: “Scientific Significance and Preservation of the Botai Culture.” This event was timed to coincide with World Archaeology Day and the anniversary of the founding of the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Botai.”

The event was attended by: Ualikhan Kulbaev, Director of the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Botai” of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Azamat Zholayev, Chief Expert of the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Kuralbek Atamuratov, Acting Head of the Department of Culture, Archives, and Documentation of the Akimat of the North Kazakhstan Region; Beibut Ismanov, Akim of the Ayirtau District; Professor of Archaeology, Doctor of Historical Sciences Viktor Zaibert; Doctor of Biological Sciences of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the International Academy of Informatization Murat Nurushev; Berik Sapanov, Director of the Center for the Protection and Use of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Department of Culture, Archives, and Documentation of the Akmola Region; Kuanish Shakshakov, Director of the Akmola Regional Historical and Local History Museum; as well as heads of government bodies, maslikhat deputies, veterans, representatives of state institutions, and employees of the social sphere and mass media. During the round table, a number of important issues concerning the development of the Botai Museum-Reserve were discussed. The event also featured the presentation of the book “Sacred Contexts of the Botai Culture”, written by V.F. Zaibert and co-authored with other scholars studying the Botai culture. After the event, participants and guests visited the exhibition and the archaeological site of the Botai settlement. The exhibition displayed discovered artifacts and presented the daily life of the Botai people.
