“Archaeological Research of Northern Kazakhstan: Current Issues and Solutions”

On December 23, 2025, the Botai Museum-Reserve held a round table in an online format on the Zoom platform on the topic: “Archaeological Research of Northern Kazakhstan: Current Issues and Solutions.”The purpose of the event was to discuss current issues in the field of preservation, study, and development of the historical and cultural heritage of the North Kazakhstan Region.

The round table was attended by archaeologist, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor of M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, Anatoly Andreyevich Pleshakov; staff members of the Center for the Protection and Use of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the North Kazakhstan Region; the akim of the Arykbalyk rural district; as well as research staff of the Botai Museum-Reserve.

During the meeting, the participants discussed plans for joint work for 2026, promising areas of archaeological research in the territory of Northern Kazakhstan, as well as issues related to the coordination of scientific and fieldwork activities. Particular attention was paid to the discoveries of mammoth bones found in the Arykbalyk rural district, their scientific significance, and their further study.

Issues related to the organization of archaeological field practice for students of M. Kozybayev University were also considered, including the involvement of young people in research activities and the development of continuity in the field of archaeology and the protection of cultural heritage.
