On August 15, 2023, a memorandum was signed between the University of Exeter (England) and the Republican State Enterprise “State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve ‘Botai’” of the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The parties signing the document were the Director of the Botai Museum-Reserve, Shakshakov K.G., and Professor of the University of Exeter, archaeologist Alan Outram.
The essence of the memorandum is mutual cooperation in the fields of science, education, and the preservation of historical heritage. It is expected that joint intellectual efforts, the use of modern laboratory equipment at the university, archaeological materials recovered during excavations, and the study of animal bones will shed light on many mysteries of the Botai Culture.
It is also anticipated that the positive emotions, stories, and impressions of students from the University of Exeter who participate in excavations at the Botai Settlement will, upon returning to England, inspire interest and motivation among their peers and friends to study the history of the Great Steppe.
