Alan Outram

Professor Alan Outram of the University of Exeter continues his scientific research at the nationally significant archaeological site — the Botai Settlement in the Aiyrtau District. Today, for example, he studied an ornamented horse phalanx, which was used for ritual purposes by the ancient Botai people. The research team of the Botai Museum-Reserve is pleased that joint efforts with British scientists will lead to a more systematic and comprehensive study of the Botai Culture. Further methodological and laboratory research will make it possible to identify patterns, analogies, and distinctive features of the life and daily practices of the ancient Botai people, and more broadly, of the equestrian culture as a whole.
