Field Seminar

On April 28, 2023, a field seminar was held at the Botai settlement, dedicated to the International Day for Monuments and Sites (April 18).

The aim of the seminar was to exchange experience in the field of preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to promote Botai culture, and to develop new ideas in archaeology and history. The seminar took place in a dwelling constructed in 2022 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in cooperation with the Republican State Enterprise “Kazrestoration.” The construction of this dwelling was carried out on a scientific basis as a unique project implemented directly at an archaeological site in Kazakhstan. The main concept of the project is that the creation of dwellings involves not only reconstruction but also a strong scientific direction. Scientific-based construction serves as a kind of development driver and represents an important step toward the museification of the site and its potential inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The seminar program included an exhibition on Botai culture, as well as an interactive tree-planting activity carried out by participants as part of protection and rescue efforts at the archaeological monument and an environmental initiative.

Presentations were also delivered by researchers and specialists in the field of historical and cultural heritage on the topics of protective measures in the field of historical and cultural heritage, reconstruction as a method of restoring and studying monuments, monuments of history and culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan—their features from a scientific and historical point of view, and the commonality and uniqueness of methods of preservation and popularization.
